माझ्या लिखाणातून मी संपत्तीची वा उदंड कीर्तीची अपेक्षा करत नाही आणि त्या दोहोंशिवायही मी पुरेसा धनवान आहे असे मी मानतो. मला माझे काव्य हेच एक पारितोषिक वाटत आले आहे. त्याने माझे दु:ख हलके झाले आहे. माझा आनंद बहुगुणित आणि विशुध्द झाला आहे. त्यामुळे मला एकांत प्रिय वाटतो आणि मला भेटणाऱ्या वा माझ्या आसपास असणाऱ्या गोष्टींमधून सुंदरता व चांगलेपणा शोधण्याची सवय काव्यानेच मला लावली आहे.
